Reiki Healing: How to prepare for your session

Reiki is a gentle, relaxing energy healing modality that supports your mind, body, and spirit. Your session will take place on a standard massage table where you will be supported by pillows for your comfort.  To get the most out of your session, a little intentional preparation can make all the difference. Here is a list of some supportive practices to help you feel your best in the hours and days before your session.

✅ What to Do Before Your Session:

  • Hydrate Well

    • Drink water throughout the day (and/or day before) to support energetic flow and detox after the session.

  • Eat Lightly

    • Have a small, nourishing meal or snack 1–2 hours beforehand. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that may make you feel sluggish.

  • Dress Comfortably

    • Wear loose, cozy clothing. You’ll remain fully clothed during your session and want to feel relaxed.  There is a restroom available that you can change clothes in if you need to.

  • Hygiene

    • You will be laying on a massage table, so you will be taking your shoes off.  If you do not wish to be barefoot for this, please bring a clean pair of socks with you to wear during your session.

    • If you plan on being barefoot in the session, that is completely acceptable.  However, for sanitation purposes, please be sure to wash your feet before you arrive if coming from home.  If you are not able to wash your feet before, hypoallergenic wipes will be available if you need to give your feet a quick refresh before we start - just ask!

  • Set an Intention

    • Take a moment to reflect: What would I like to release, receive, or gain clarity on? You don’t need to have a perfect answer—just be open to healing.

  • Arrive a Few Minutes Early

    • Give yourself time to breathe, settle, and unplug from the outside world before stepping into sacred space.

🚫 What to Avoid Beforehand:

  • Stimulants like caffeine or energy drinks – they can interfere with relaxation and energetic receptivity.

  • Alcohol or recreational substances – these can dull your sensitivity to energy and create instability in your aura.

  • Intense exercise right before – gentle movement like yoga or walking is fine but give your nervous system time to settle.

  • Overbooking your day – Reiki can bring up emotions or fatigue afterward. If possible, give yourself time to integrate and rest.
